Bihar State Building Construction Corporation Ltd (BSBCCL) has floated an e-tender for the development of tourist amenities at Lal Pahadi, a state-protected archaeological site in Lakhisarai district. The estimated cost of the project is ₹23.24 crore, and the completion timeline is set at 15 months.
According to the tender issued by the Chief General Manager of BSBCCL, the scope of work includes infrastructure development to make the site more accessible and visitor-friendly. The tender was published on June 13, 2025, and the deadline for submission of bids is July 22, 2025, at 3 PM. Technical bids will be opened on July 23, while financial bid dates will be announced later.
Lal Pahadi holds archaeological significance due to its early medieval remains linked to the Pala period, between the 8th and 12th centuries CE. The site, located amidst the hills of Lakhisarai, has yielded a number of artifacts including temple ruins, terracotta figures, and stone sculptures, pointing to its past as a religious and cultural centre. Experts believe that both Hindu and Buddhist practices flourished here.
While it remains lesser-known compared to Nalanda or Vikramshila, Lal Pahadi has long attracted the interest of historians and archaeologists. Excavations conducted over the years by state archaeology departments have revealed signs of stupas, temple complexes, and possibly an ancient monastery. The site was later declared a state-protected monument under the Bihar Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites Act.
