SEPC Limited has secured the work allocation order for the Jamania to Kakrait Gangajal Lift Irrigation Scheme. The project, located in Kaimur district under the Zamanian Pump Canal Division in Mohania, carries a contract value of ₹442.79 crore and is to be executed within 24 months.

The project aims to lift water from the River Ganga near the Chaudhary Charan Singh Pump House in Jamania, Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh, and supply it to Kakrait Ghat near the Karmnasha Pump House in Bihar. The work involves a comprehensive range of activities, beginning with survey, investigation, designing and obtaining approvals from competent authorities.

It will include the construction of an intake well-cum-pumphouse with civil, mechanical and electrical components, as well as SCADA and a pre-engineered building structure. An approach platform, service bridge and suitable protection works will be built along with the installation of motor-pump sets capable of withdrawing 7,03,334 litres of water per minute from the Ganga.

In addition, the project covers laying a pipeline between Jamania and Kakrait Ghat, constructing a multi-purpose VAT near Karmnasha Pump House, building office complexes, staff quarters, compound walls, entry gates, approach roads and internal CC roads. Electrical infrastructure such as substations and transmission lines from the nearest power grid (132/33 KV or 33/11 KV) will also be set up.

Road, railway, canal and river crossings will be executed along the pipeline route, including surge protection and water hammer control devices. The scheme will be fully automated with a SCADA-enabled control and instrumentation system, allowing remote monitoring and smooth operation.

Land acquisition planning and obtaining statutory clearances, including forest and environmental approvals from the central and state governments, form part of the scope of work. After commissioning, the project will undergo a three-month trial run, followed by five years of comprehensive operation and maintenance.

Once completed, the Jamania to Kakrait Gangajal Lift Irrigation Scheme is expected to significantly improve irrigation facilities in Kaimur and surrounding regions, benefitting thousands of farmers and boosting agricultural productivity. The contract reinforces SEPC Limited’s position as a key player in water infrastructure development in northern India.
