As of June 1, 2025, numerous vital highway infrastructure projects in Bihar have been awarded but are yet to commence. These projects span greenfield corridors, strengthening and maintenance of existing national highways, construction of flyovers, and the development of bypasses. These initiatives are part of a broader push to enhance road connectivity and streamline transportation in the state.

Among the significant projects, two contracts have been awarded for the strengthening and major maintenance of the Muzaffarpur–Darbhanga–Purnea section of National Highway 27. Sheeraj Projects Private Limited has secured both packages — the first covering the stretch from Km. 156.456 to Km. 285.007 (128.551 km), and the second from Km. 0.000 to Km. 145.646 (145.646 km). Both contracts were awarded on March 29, 2025.

In another major development, Dhariwal Buildtech Limited has been awarded the contract for constructing the Kishanganj–Bahadurganj greenfield section (22.6 km), with the Letter of Award (LOA) issued on March 18, 2025. This project is expected to provide improved regional connectivity in the northeastern districts of Bihar.

6-lane Greenfield Varanasi–Ranchi–Kolkata Highway

As part of the 6-lane Greenfield Varanasi–Ranchi–Kolkata Highway project under NH-3198, Package-7 covers the stretch from Anarbansalea village to Sagrampur village, spanning from KM 151.200 to KM 184.700 with a total length of 33.5 km. The Letter of Award (LOA) for civil work was issued on 31st March 2023, and the concessionaire for this package is GR Varanasi Kolkata Highway Private Limited.

Package-6 of the same highway project stretches from Pachmon village to Anarbansalea village, covering KM 116.000 to KM 151.200 with a total length of 35.2 km. This section is being executed by Varanasi Kolkata Highway Package 6 Pvt. Ltd., and forms an important link in connecting key regions across Bihar and Jharkhand.

Further along the alignment, Package-2 runs from the junction with Chandauli-Chainpur Road near Khainti village to the junction with Bhabhua-Adhaura Road near Palka village. This section spans 27 km (KM 27.000 to KM 54.000), and the LOA for civil works was also issued on 31st March 2023. PNC Infratech Pvt. Ltd. is the concessionaire for this package.

Package-3 covers the stretch from the junction with Bhabhua-Adhaura Road in Bhairopur village to Konki village, from KM 54.000 to KM 90.000, with a total length of 36 km. This package too is being developed by PNC Infratech Pvt. Ltd., with the LOA issued on 31st March 2023. The new National Highway number for this section is yet to be notified.

Another important greenfield project involves the construction of a 6-lane corridor from Ramnagar to Kacchi Dargah on NH-119D, including widening of a stretch of NH-31. This 14.5 km project, awarded to SGIHPL-RCPL (JV) on March 25, 2025, is a critical part of the Amas–Darbhanga corridor.

JSP Projects Pvt. Ltd. will be handling two projects — construction of flyovers at Mahua Chowk and Fakull (Muzaffarpur) along NH-22 (2.51 km, awarded March 14, 2024), and a 42.8 km 4-laning under NH configuration from Manikpur to Sahebganj on NH-139W (awarded March 19, 2025).

Another key corridor, NH-119A, connecting Saura (Sasaram) to Patna via Arrah, is set to be developed as a 4-lane corridor under Package-1. The 88.7 km project (including a 4.3 km spur) was awarded to NKC Projects Private Limited on May 21, 2025.

In addition, the Arrah Bypass on NH-319 (4.5 km) has been awarded to Chandrawati Construction Pvt. Ltd. on May 26, 2025.

Balance works on the Piprakothi–Motihari–Raxaul section of NH-28A (68.59 km) are also set to be undertaken by MSPARK Futuristics & Associates IV in partnership with Chaitanya Projects Consultancy Private Limited. The LOA for this was issued on February 1, 2024.

Further, the Bakhtiyarpur–Rajauli section (Pkg-1, Km. 47.723 to Km. 54.405) and the renovation of the Maker Bypass fork on NH-102 (NH-722) have been awarded to KCC Infra Private Limited and I.K. Engicon Pvt. Ltd. respectively.
