Gorakhpur–Siliguri Expressway: NHAI Notifies Land Acquisition Across Four Districts

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued Gazette notifications for land acquisition in Bihar to facilitate the construction of the Gorakhpur–Siliguri Greenfield Expressway. The expressway will be 525.590 km long with a six-lane configuration and a right of way (ROW) of 100 meters.

The project’s base civil cost, excluding GST, has been estimated at ₹22,547 crore, while land acquisition will require around 5,503 hectares at an estimated cost of ₹12,094 crore. With this, the total capital cost of the project is expected to reach ₹37,465 crore. According to the alignment plan, approximately 87.5 percent of the land required will be agricultural.

In Bihar, the expressway will cover a stretch of nearly 417 km, passing through eight districts—West Champaran, East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, and Kishanganj. The latest notifications cover land acquisition in West Champaran, East Champaran, Madhubani, and Supaul districts, which together account for about 231.6 km of the project length within the state.

This acquisition covers nearly 231.6 km of the Gorakhpur–Siliguri Expressway in Bihar, part of the total 417 km stretch in the state. Once completed, the expressway will improve interstate connectivity, boost trade, and significantly reduce travel time between Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and North Bengal.
