The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has invited bids for the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Khelo India Olympic-size covered swimming pool at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna, Bihta campus. The DPR consultancy services are estimated at ₹13.17 lakh and must be completed within 30 days.
The DPR will form the blueprint for the construction of a 50-meter by 25-meter Olympic-standard swimming pool and a 10-meter by 6-meter toddler pool, both in alignment with Khelo India guidelines. The plan will include truss structures with roof coverings, water heating systems, ozone-based filtration and disinfection mechanisms, lighting arrangements, and complete water supply, sewerage, and drainage systems.
In addition, the proposal involves developing an underground sump with a 2.5 lakh-liter capacity, a boundary wall, a landscaped green area featuring a small fountain, and a service building that will house a reception, office space, male and female changing rooms, toilets, and equipment control rooms.

The selected consultant will be responsible for preparing and submitting architectural designs and 3D walkthroughs, conducting soil investigations, and submitting structural designs for the pools, buildings, and roof structures, all vetted by IIT or NIT. The consultant will also design public health components, electrical and mechanical systems, and water filtration, heating, plumbing, and drainage systems. All design work must comply with Khelo India norms, emphasize cost-efficiency and ease of maintenance, and follow codal standards.
The proposed swimming pool complex, which will occupy an 83-meter by 37-meter plot, is envisioned as a national-level training and competition facility under the Khelo India initiative. The project aims to bolster sports infrastructure in Bihar and support high-performance athletic training at premier educational institutions.
