The Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUiDCO) has awarded the contract for the Nawada Water Supply Scheme to M/s Ganadhipati Construction Private Limited. The project, aimed at extending potable water coverage in Nagar Parishad Nawada, will serve 44 wards and newly inhabited residential areas under the State Plan.

The contract, valued at ₹176.17 crore, is to be executed within 24 months, against an estimated project cost of ₹193.12 crore. Bids for the project were invited in March this year.

Scope of Work

The scheme is designed to meet a water demand of 135 litres per capita per day, in line with the Central Public Health and Environmental Engineering Organisation (CPHEEO) Manual.

Under the Design, Build, Operate and Maintain framework, the successful bidder will be responsible for delivering a complete and fully functional water supply system for the designated supply area. Key tasks include:

The project involves a comprehensive range of activities to ensure a fully functional and sustainable water supply system for Nawada. This includes conducting a detailed assessment of existing utilities and integrating them into the operations and maintenance framework, undertaking field surveys, geotechnical studies, and preparing GIS/AutoCAD-based maps and drawings, as well as assessing and confirming the quality of the existing groundwater source through sanitary surveys and testing.

It will also involve designing improvements for current infrastructure and creating detailed plans for new works such as main pipelines, reservoirs, and distribution systems. The contractor will be responsible for supplying and installing all required materials, mechanical and electrical equipment, control panels, and cabling to ensure smooth operation.

Additionally, the scope covers the establishment of storage facilities, pumping systems, distribution networks, valves, and house connections, along with the preparation of operation and maintenance manuals, commissioning of works, and completion tests.

The project also includes recruiting and training technical personnel for ongoing operations, providing spare parts, tools, lubricants, and carrying out routine maintenance for a period of five years after commissioning, with the design ensuring readiness for future expansion in line with Nawada’s growing population.

Design, Build, and Expansion Readiness

The contractor will secure all necessary permits, prepare detailed designs, and construct infrastructure in line with bid specifications. The system will be designed to allow for future expansion as Nawada’s population grows.

Operation & Maintenance Commitments

For 60 months following the trial run, the operator will manage all components, including tube wells, pumping stations, transmission mains, reservoirs, distribution pipelines, and service connections. Tasks will also cover leakage repairs, water quality monitoring, annual maintenance, and round-the-clock security.
