Adani Power Ltd. (APL), India’s largest private sector thermal power producer, has signed a 25-year Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. (BSPGCL) for the supply of 2,400 MW of electricity. The power will be generated from a greenfield ultra-supercritical thermal power plant to be set up at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur district, Bihar.
The agreement follows the Letter of Award (LoA) issued by BSPGCL in August on behalf of North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (NBPDCL) and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. (SBPDCL). APL secured the project by quoting the lowest tariff of ₹6.075 per kWh.
Adani Power plans to invest around \$3 billion to build the three-unit (3×800 MW) plant under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model. Coal for the project has been allocated under the Government of India’s SHAKTI Policy.
The project is expected to create direct and indirect employment for 10,000–12,000 people during construction and around 3,000 once operational. The company aims to fully commission the plant within 60 months.
With this project, Adani Power continues to expand its footprint, adding to its existing 18,110 MW thermal capacity spread across eight states.
