NHAI Invites Bids Four-Laning of Muzaffarpur–Sitamarhi–Sonbarsa Highway

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited bids for the four-laning of the Muzaffarpur–Sitamarhi–Sonbarsa section of National Highway-22 in Bihar, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving regional connectivity and boosting economic activity in north Bihar .

The project covers a total length of 82.551 km and will be executed under the HAM on a Design, Build, Operate and Transfer (DBOT) basis. While the estimated project cost is pegged at ₹2,441.07 crore, the estimated bid project cost has been fixed at ₹2,831.42 crore (excluding GST), as assessed during appraisal by the Standing Finance Committee/PPPAC.

According to the Request for Proposals (RFP) issued by NHAI, the bidding process commenced on January 7, 2026, and interested bidders can submit proposals through the NHAI e-procurement portal until February 25, 2026, 11:00 AM. Technical bids will be opened on February 26, 2026, at 11:30 AM.

The highway project is expected to significantly enhance road safety, reduce travel time, and facilitate smoother movement of goods and passengers between Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, and the Indo-Nepal border region at Sonbarsa. It is also likely to provide a major push to trade, agriculture supply chains, and industrial development in the region.
