The Bihar State Milk Co-operative Federation Ltd. (COMFED) has floated a tender for the establishment of a new modern dairy plant in Darbhanga, aimed at strengthening the dairy infrastructure under the Mithila Dugdh Utpadak Sakhari Sangh Ltd., Samastipur.
As per the tender, the project involves the design, construction, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of a fully automatic milk processing plant with a capacity of two lakh litres per day. The project will be carried out on a turnkey basis at a cost of ₹65.50 crore and is expected to be completed within eighteen months.
The techno-commercial bids for the project will be opened on September 10, 2025, at 3:30 pm. The expenditure for the plant will be met from funds provided under a scheme of the Government of Bihar.
The Bihar Cabinet had earlier approved ₹71.32 crore for the new dairy plant in Darbhanga on July 29. Once operational, the facility is expected to provide a major boost to dairy farmers in the Mithila region by ensuring better procurement, processing and market opportunities for milk producers. It is also likely to generate employment and support the local economy.
Meanwhile, tenders for milk processing plants of 30 metric tonnes per day capacity each have already been floated for Sitamarhi and Dehri-on-Sone.
