Rajgir’s State Sports Academy and International Cricket Stadium to be Inaugurated on August 29

Principal Secretary of the Sports Department, Mr. B. Rajender, announced that Bihar’s Chief Minister, Mr. Nitish Kumar, will inaugurate the State Sports Academy and International Standard Modern Cricket Stadium in Rajgir on August 29, 2024, in celebration of National Sports Day. The project, costing approximately ₹750 crore, is being constructed by the Building Construction Department of Bihar.

Construction Progress

The State Sports Academy will feature an athletics track, football stadium, hockey turf stadium, swimming pool, basketball court, volleyball court, handball court, lawn tennis court, wrestling area, weightlifting area, kabaddi ground, badminton court, archery range, shooting range, table tennis area, fencing area, billiards room, judo area, taekwondo area, and cycling track.

Stadium Update: Construction is 55% complete, including pavilions, general stands, media facilities, hospitality areas, and parking. The remaining work is expected to be finished by June 2025.

Appointments

The state government has approved 81 permanent and 33 contractual positions for the State Sports Academy, including roles for directors, specialized trainers, media officers, dietitians, and other staff.

Bihar Sports University

The Bihar Sports University, located within the State Sports Academy’s premises, aims to advance physical education and sports research. Established on July 16, 2021, it will operate with 31 approved positions. Mr. Rajnikant, IAS, will serve as Registrar effective September 1, 2024.

The inauguration will also feature an exhibition match by the Indian Women’s Hockey Team and award ceremonies for nine international players.
